The S20 is a executive style drafting pencil. It has a body made of wood with either a Dark Brown or Deep Red finish in the US. This is a popular pen that is respected for its build quality and good looks. In Japan the S20 is sometimes called the Escienti. The pencil is normally sold in 0.5 mm but the red and dark brown colors are also sold in 0.3 mm.
The Pilot S20 is exceptionally well made, with a smooth wood finish and high-end metal components. The metal clip is wrapped around the wood so that it’s removable and doesn’t harm the wood when being installed. The button’s top has a small piece of wood on it as well, which is a very nice touch.
The performance of the S20, while lacking high-end features is very reliable. The pencil has a smooth, quite click and enough lead is pushed out that you aren’t clicking all the time.
Despite the price the S20 is a fixed-pipe pencil (not a double-knock) but the tip is replaceable.

The S20 pencil has a lead hardness indicator in the cap. It has an eraser under the cap that is a standard size for mechanical pencils. A set of replacement erasers is sold as Pilot’s HERFS-10.
