Sailor Ink Studio 123 Fountain Pen Ink

Sailor Ink Studio 123 is a purple-ish grey fountain pen ink. It’s the most popular ink in the Sailor Studio collection.

123 comes from Sailor’s boutique-y “Ink Studio” which features more subtle inks than the standard inks from Sailor or the popular Jentle line. The closest ink in Sailor’s main lines would be Sakura-mori, but that’s a good deal more purple than the 123, which has strong grey tones.

123 is sold in a square 20 ml bottle and is not available  in a cartridge, confirming its boutique nature.

This is a smooth, well-mannered ink that is easy to clean and works with all fountain pens. The grey base means the ink is quite light so it can be hard to read on many papers and it’s not appropriate for office use. When used for general lighting the ink benefits from a wider nib where the ink can be more saturated giving it a more purple tone.

The ink has no sheen but lots of shading, morphing the ink from a washed out purple-grey to a true purple when fully saturated or laid down in a thick line.
