Uni Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil

Uni Kuru Toga Standard Pencil

The Kuru Toga is Uni’s (Mitsubishi Pencil) family of mechanical pencils with auto-rotating lead technology. This rotates the lead so that it creates and maintains and a point, as opposed to the lead working itself to an angle and creating uneven lines on the page.

This Kuru Toga is usually known as the “Standard” model as it’s the base model for the family. Selling for around $5, it’s the most affordable of the Kuru Togas.

The Kuru Toga pencil are not technically drafting pencils and are lacking in some of the features you’d normally associate with a professional piece of equipment. As a result they do not have a lead grade indicator, nor do they include a tool to clear out a lead jam.

Kuru Toga pencils’ rotating engine prevent lead breaks but it also means there is a lot of play at the tip of the lead. Many people don’t like these pencils for this reason and instead opt for a traditional drafting pencil, like the Rotring 600, or for Zebra’s Delguard, which has its own anti-lead breaking mechanism.

All of these pencils are similar, but offer different grips. The Advance models have a lead rotating engine that moves more quickly, creating a better writing point.
