The Rocketbook Smart Reusable Notebook looks like a standard notebook but it actually uses erasable, wipeable pages that can be scanned in and saved to the cloud.
The Rocketbook is a top-selling notebook on Amazon. It looks like a normal notebook, but it’s actually a high-tech writing pad with pages that can be wiped off and reused.
The Rocketbook includes an erasable Frixion pen and a chamois wipe, both of which can be used in order to write erasable notes and then wipe them off when they are no longer needed.
In order to preserve the notes, the way you’d save the pages of your bookshelf or the entire notebook for posterity, the Rocketbook works with a smartphone app which scans the page and saves it to your cloud storage box (Google Drive, Evernote, Dropbox, etc.). The app can also send the notes to you via Slack, email, or similar services.
In addition to scanning the pages and sending you an image of the page, the cloud app can also scan the pages using optical character recognition (OCR) so you won’t just get an image of the text, but also the text itself.
The Mini is the smallest of the Rocketbook series, with the standard Rocketbook being sold in standard sizes, including Letter (8.5 x 11 inches) and Executive (6 x 8.8 inches).
The Rocketbook uses a very smooth, heavy paper. It feels as if it’s coated in plastic, not unlike a Rhodia but heavier and with a more artificial feel.
When uses with the erasable Frixion ballpoint the dry times are about 20 seconds, a bit more than the 15 seconds advertised by the company. Either way drying takes a fairly long time, so the paper can be a challenge for lefties.
The pages are only wipeable when used with an erasable pen, so you can’t use a standard ballpoint pen. Gel and rollerball pens don’t really work with paper as it’s too smooth for water-based inks to adhere to.
