The Twsbi Eco is a plastic body, steel nib fountain pen that retails for just under $30. The pen is known for its excellent build quality and writing that matches the experience of pens that cost easily twice.
The Eco is a piston-filled pen that does not use a converter or cartridges. As a bonus, the piston mechanism is fully user-serviceable and the pen even includes the tools necessary to remove the piston from the body (for replacement or cleaning).
The Twsbi Eco uses a size 5 steel nib and appears to be of very high quality. It’s a bit undersized and gives the pen a slightly off aesthetic when uncapped, but the rest of the pen is quite handsome with nicely balanced features.
Twsbi Eco Colors
The Twsbi Eco is sold in a number of color variants, which may be considered different models, they include the:
- Eco Black
- Eco Clear
- Eco Pink
- Eco White
- Eco Rose Gold – White and Smoke Black
- Eco Transparent Purple
- Eco Transparent Blossom
- Eco Transparent Blue
- Eco Transparent Green
Some of these are limited edition pens that are no longer sold. Each of the models are the same but the color of the cap and the end piece are different from the standard, entirely clear Eco.
Note, no ink is sold with the Twsbi Eco, so you’ll have to find your own. The pen only uses a piston filling mechanism so you’ll need a bottle of fountain pen ink, not a cartridge!
Twsbi Eco Review
The Eco is an excellent pen, and our favorite fountain pen between $10 and $50 (see our top fountain pens under $50). The Eco offers much better value than the next level up of Twsbi pens, including the Diamond 580, making is a clear pick in the Twsbi fountain pen line.
The Eco has some minor downsides, like a round body instead of a faceted one and a smallish nib, but these aren’t generally dealbeakers. The small, number 5 nib, looks undersized on the body of this full-sized pen, but this is purely an aesthetic complaint.
The Eco’s nib always is sold by a top makers, like Bock, though the actually company who makes it will vary based on the age of your Eco. The nib partner has shifted a few times over the years but the nib’s are essentially the same and people don’t necessarily prefer or hunt down Eco fountain pens of a certain age or type.
This is a good looking, high performance pen that thrives despite its competitive price category. The Twsbi Eco offers huge value and while there are some Chinese fountain pens that rival the features and quality of this pen, none offer the combination of a high quality pen, very good customer service, nice packaging, and availability from popular and trusted online pen stores.
The Twsbi Eco is highly recommended and a can’t-miss purchase for any fountain pen user.
Twsbi Eco Maintenance Tips
If your Eco needs to be maintained or fixed in some way, don’t worry because the pen is fully maintainable.
Using the included wrench and silicone grease, the pen can be fully stripped down and cleaned. It can be greased, adjusted, tightened, or parts can be replaced. This is a simply operation, but one that has to be done carefully given all the tiny plastic parts inside the pen.
The top of the Eco is a screw that moves the piston filler up and down, in this same area the include plastic wrench can be pushed in between piston knob and the body in order to unscrew the internals. It’s a simple operation.
Above are the parts of the Twsbi Eco, in case the pen needs work or part replacements. The company is generally helpful with with this, but it only makes sense to a limited degree given the low price of the pen.
