The Lamy Dialog 3 is a high-end retractable fountain pen. It uses a twist design in order to extend and retract the nib.
The Dialog 3 (sometimes spelled Dialog3) uses Lamy’s standard T10 cartridges, proprietary converters, and modular nib system. The pen uses Lamy’s Z55 14K gold nib and is not sold in a steel nib option, hence the high starting point.
The Dialog 3 is sold in matte black, palladium, gloss black (called “Piano Black”), and gloss white (“Piano White) versions. The pen included Lamy’s Z27 converter but will work with the older Z26 as well.
The Dialog 3 is not sold as another type of pen or pencil, rather the Dialog 1 is a ballpoint pen and the Dialog 2 is a capless rollerball.
