The Pentel Smash is an affordable mechanical pencil with a very cool, old school style to it.
The Pentel Smash (model Q1005 ) is known for its rubber cover by the button (which looks like a shock cover from a suspension) and its combo-style grip which has a metal body with rubber squares poking out. Then pen uses a number of metal components, which is a nice perk for the price. The metal pipe is not replaceable, nor is it retractable.
The Smash is available in a huge array of color combinations, many of which were only released for a limited number of time. This means that the Smash is one of the most collectible of mechanical pencils, with some colors becoming dramatically more expensive then others when sold on collector marketplaces (Ebay, Reddit, etc.). The features from one to another never vary, just the rarity and color scheme.
Some of the rarer and more expensive Pentel Smash varities include:
- Limited Edition Two-tone (with silver lower)
- Pentel Loft Limited Edition
- Apita
- Coach & Four collaboration
- Tokyu Hands Shop Limited Edition
- Detective Conan Limited Edition
- Champagne gold color
- Blue grey color
The Smash was briefly sold as a ballpoint pen as well. It’s quite rare and can sell for upwards of $100.
