The Scala is a mid-to-high range fountain pen that is a primary example of Lamy’s design philosophy and mastery of materials.
The closest comparison to the Scala is the Lamy Studio, which is much more popular because it’s about half the price of the Scala. The Studio is all metal, like the Scala, but it’s rounded and smaller compared to the Scala’s heavier, squared-off design.
The Scala’s design is deceptively simple, with a big, square-off cap and back, making for a somewhat chunky design. The pen’s weight reflects this, with a heavy body and feels like its not only made entirely of metal, but has weight added to the interior of the body to give it a high-end feeling (which is definitely has).
The pen uses Lamy’s standard nib system and is predominantly sold with a steel nib, but can be had with Lamy’s 14K gold nib (which about doubles the price of the pen).
