For some time the CON-70 has been Pilot’s largest and most expensive fountain pen converter. The Pilot CON-70N is a variant on the CON-70 released in 2020 with different internal components. The CON-70N is a direct replacement for the CON-70.
The CON-70N was released in 2020 as an upgrade to the standard CON-70. It has the same spring-loaded, push-button mechanism and 1.1 ml capacity. The CON-70N seems to be a direct replacement for the CON-70.
As of June 2020 the CON-70N has yet to be announced officially by Pilot but images of it can be found online as well as on some e-commerce listings. The official price of the CON-70N will be 700 JPY, or about $7 USD, but this will likely be higher (around $10) in the US.
CON-70N vs CON-70
While the two converters look almost exactly similar, there are differences between the two. The CON-70N has a metal collar above the rubber stopper that seals the main chamber in the converter and then jump up as the ink is pulls out. This metal pieces will likely be there to improve the CON-70N’s ability to fill all the way or improve its durability as the rubber stopper piece can become worn out over time.
The metal body of the CON-70N seems to be more of a matte finish than the chrome or black on the CON-70, but this is a difficult thing to relay over images so we’ll have to see the aesthetic differences in person.
