Think about it, 2020 is just around the corner. The signs are all around you! Maybe that Hobonichi Tech0 Avec half-year journal is already starting to look a little broken in, or your 2019 Hobonichi Cousin is looking a little bit aged. Or, you know, maybe it’s just cooling down (or heating up) a little bit outside, depending on where you live.
It’s August, which means the Hobonichi 2020 lineup is just weeks away.
The Hobonichi Techo 2020 series of journals had an early preview in both Kyoto and Tokyo in August 2019. Here fans of the Techo line could see the books and covers in person ahead of the upcoming release date. The previews run from August 16-29 at the Tobichi store in Kyoto and the Tobichi 2 store in Tokyo.
The events sound great. Visitors will get a 2020 Hobonichi Techo catalog, the chance to enter a lottery, and free water with Techo Life Book 2020 labels on them. You can also get a passport-style stamp in your current Hobonichi that will say “Hobonichi Techo 2020 Lineup Reveal Event.” Plus you can see all the upcoming journals in person. Of course, you cannot buy anything at the event as it’s just a preview.

From the online preview we know some great designs are coming. These include:
- A6 cover: Mother 2 embossed leather cover from Nintendo’s famous 1994 video game (known as Earthbound in the US).
- A6 size: Illustrator Daisuke Soshiki cover with a bear that appears to blink at your as you flip open the cover
- A5 size: Antique handkerchief cover with floral print. A collaboration with Blooming Nakanishi.
- Weeks hardcover: Bow & Tie which is covered in a tie-like fabric
- A6 cover: Karel Capek design based on “Dashenka: The Story of a Puppy”
- A6 cover: Taiyo Matsumoto’s “My Manga and I” cover
- A5 cover: Minä Perhonen “wood bird” embroidered fabric cover
- A6 cover: Arts&Science Calf & Linen luxury cover in wine and black colors
- A6 cover: Collaboration with mt washi tape

Hobonichi Techo 2020 Release Date
The Hobonichi Techo 2020 line will be officially released on September 1, 2019. Keep in mind that this is a staggered release.
