The Jinhao 992 is a super affordable Chinese fountain pen with a clear plastic body. It’s a cartridge/converter pen that includes a screw-style converter with the pen. The pen is sold in clear plastic or in a variety of translucent and opaque colors. It sizes a common torpedo shape that is typical of Sailor and Pilot pens, and almost the same pen as the Monteverde Monza.
Unlike many popular pens from Jinhao and Wing Sung, the 992 is not a clear copy of another pen. Rather, it’s a rather standard looking, torpedo-shaped fountain pen with few distinctive features. If anything it resembles the Pilot Prera or a smaller Sailor 1911 but only in general appearance.
The 992 is compatible with Jinhao fountain pen cartridges. The included converter looks very similar to Lamy’s Z27 converter, but the two are not the same.
The 992 is most commonly sold in a 0.5 mm (fine) steel nib, but the pen is sold in 0.5 mm, 0.7 mm, Stub 1.1 mm, 1.5 mm, 1.9 mm, 2.5 mm, and 2.9 mm sizes.
It’s not rare for a Jinhao 992 to crack, especially at the end of the pen barrel. This will not typical affect the performance of the pen, but it will be visible and could expand over time.
