Lamy Noto Ballpoint Pen

Lamy Noto Ballpoint Pen

The Lamy Noto is an affordable, all-plastic ballpoint that the company released in 2008. The pen was designed by Naoto Fukasawa, who is most famous for his Muji compact disc player.

The Noto has a plastic body and a plastic grip, though the grip on some models looks metal because of a metallic grey coating. Lamy touts the pen for its sleek design and integrated clip — which doesn’t extend out past the body of the pen. It also has a silent clip mechanism, which is quite appropriate for the workplace and fits nicely with the pen’s minimalist appeal.

The Noto is the recipient of multiple design awards including:

  • iF Product Design Award
  • red dot Design Award
  • Good Design Award of the Chicago Athenaeum
  • Design Prize of the Federal Republic of Germany (Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland)

The Noto can only be filled with the Lamy M16 ballpoint refill.

The original price of the Noto at its 2009 release was 3.90 euros, but it’s increased since then. The pen was originally released in four colorways: orange, black, light grey, and light blue. Today it’s most popular in white (pictured) and all black.
