The Pentel Energel Euro Needle Point (aka needle-tip) is a capped gel pen from Pentel Co., LTD. It features a needle-point tip, plastic body and cap, and a folded metal clip. It is also a non-refillable liquid gel pen. It costs about $3.
The Euro Needle Point is an inexpensive office-type pen. It is similar to several needle-tip rollerball style pens, the most popular being the Pilot Precise V5 rollerball.
Pentel Energel Euro Needle Point Review
The Euro Needle Point is a simple, cheap pen with no bells and whistles. Its an all-plastic pen with a thin folded metal clip. The only feature that stands out is its wave pattern rubber grip.
Its available in the standard black, red, and blue ink colors but there is a green and violet ink version as well. The body seems to only be available in a cheap looking sparkly blue color except for the green and violet inks. They have a gray pen body as opposed to the blue.
The cap is a snap-on and is pretty secure. The clip also seems quite sturdy to be folded metal. You shouldn’t have any issue with the cap coming off while the pen is in a pocket.
The grip is a nice touch. It’s a hard rubber with a wave texture that looks pretty nice. It also does a pretty good job of offering extra grip while writing. Even with my sweat-prone hands, it performed quite well.
The only complaint I have with this pen is it’s not refillable. I find this rather surprising being and Energel pen but it’s true. I tried to see if the cone piece would remove and allow you to put in another needle-point Energel refill like the LRN5. Unfortunately, this is not the case. This pen is one and done.
Writing Experience
The Euro Needle Point is a great writer. Pentel Energels are known for their excellent ink performance and this pen is no exception. Its silky smooth and the ink color is nice and dark. I did experience the occasional “catch” in the ball as I wrote but it was minimal and didn’t affect my writing at all.
Dry time was a little longer than I like but I’m a lefty and very smudge prone. For most people it should not be a problem.
Verdict
The Pentel Energel Euro Needle Point is an excellent pen and quite inexpensive. If you’re looking for a needletip gel pen, then this is a good choice, especially if you’re looking for an alternatives to the Pilot Precise line. Just be aware that its disposable! No refills for this pen are available, which could get expensive over time plus isn’t environmentally friendly.
While this pen is a great writer, I can’t say that I’m a fan. I typically don’t like needle-tip pens, nor do I like capped pens (fountain pens being an exception). I much prefer retractable pens. But don’t let that deter you. It’s still a good performing pen… it’s just not my cup of tea.
