Pentel EnerGel-X Gel Pen

The Pentel EnerGel-X is a popular gel pen that has won over many fans because of its excellent, quick-drying ink. The body is entirely plastic and not particularly notable, but it’s comfortable, affordable, and has a lot of availability in the US, Japan, and other places. The Energel-X is specifically a retractable version of the Energel series.

The Energel-X is one of our picks for best gel pens, though we particularly like the limited edition version, known as the Energel Infree.

Interestingly, the Energel-X is sold as both in both a normal (conical) writing tip and as a needle-point pen. Most pens would have a different model if the writing tip were to change, but Pentel doesn’t make the distinction in this case. The Energel-X is sold in 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.7 mm, and 1.0 mm sizes, but not all tips are sold in all sizes!

Some of the fun features of the body include a rubber grip, a wide diameter, and a wide button that if comfortable even for repeated presses. This is a good pen for writing for long periods of time because of the ink drying times as well as the wide, easy to hold grip. Another perk is that the pen is made of over 80% recycled materials, so it’s eco-friendly as well.
