The Acroball is a hybrid pen from Pilot meant for everyday use. It’s a modern-day ballpoint with an advanced lubricated ink. Because the ink is oil-based Pilot considers it a ballpoint — hence you will sometime seen it called the Pilot Acroball Ballpoint Pen — it’s a hybrid pen as per Unsharpen’s definition. The ink is very smooth, purportedly with a viscosity that is just 20% of that of a standard ballpoint ink.
The Acroball has a retail price of 150 JPY and they use the BRFV-10 line of refills, for example the BRFV-10M for the 1.0 mm size.
The standard Acroball is a lackluster pen body that uses and excellent ink. The body is entirely plastic, including the front tip and clip. The rubber grip uses a sporty pattern that is inspired by car tires — it’s comfortable and provides excellent grip for your hand.
The Acroball is sold in a few different colorways which are considers different models, but are technically the same pen. These include the:
- Acrboball: colorful bodies, standard ink colors (blue, black, green, red)
- Acroball Color: colorful bodies, colorful ink
- Acroball M: earth tones like sepia, burgundy, ivory, and khaki, normal ink colors
- Acroball PureWhite: opaque white body with a selection of accent colors (blue, lime, turquoise, ink, purple, orange and silver), standard ink colors
- Acroball For A Cure: A special edition pink Acroball, pink or black ink
- AcroBall T: Metallic body colors. Colors:
- 0.5 mm: metal pink, metal light blue, metal light green, gold, silver
- 0.7 mm: metal black, metal red, metal blue, metal green, silver
The Acroball Pro is actually a different pen due to a changed body shape and a the use of some metal parts.
