The Sharpie S-Gel is a retractable gel pen that is aimed at office users. It’s designed to take the boldness and ease-of-use of a Sharpie marker to a pen, but doesn’t offer anything new to buyers.
The S-Gel is a refillable, retractable pen that is entirely made of plastic aside from a contoured rubber grip. It does not appear that refills are yet sold separately, but the pen comes apart at the center so it’s possible to refill them.
The S-Gel is sold in black, blue, and red colors, all of which are available in 0.5 mm (fine), 0.7 mm (medium), and 1.0 mm (bold) sizes.
Sharpie S-Gel Gel Pen Review
The S-Gel was purported to take the strengths of a Sharpie and bring it to a gel pen. In fact the company says, “power of Sharpie is now in a gel pen” on its website. This is a serious promise to make given the history of the Sharpie and the love people have for it, and it’s hard to say that the pen delivers on that promise.
The Sharpie gel pen is, at the end of the day, a good writer and a fine enough gel pen, but it’s not really any different from any other gel pen. It’s quick-drying and smear-free with a nice, dark black… just like any reason quality gel pen. The Sharpie blue isn’t as saturated or blue as the blue Sharpie that so many of us use all the time, which was a disappointment. The blue is actually rather light, with a greyish tone and a hint of green that isn’t particularly pleasant.
