The Tombow Zoom 707 is a super-slim ballpoint pen that is just 4.0 mm at the narrowest point. It’s sometimes called the “dragonfly pen” because it’s said to look like a dragonfly (without the wings).
The Zoom 707 is an iconic minimalist pen that has been sold continuously since 1987 and is part of Tombow’s Design Collection, like the Oceanic.
It’s a competitor to the more famous Lamy Spirit, which cost at least 5x more, yet the Zoom 707 is still a mostly metal pen. The 707 does have a rubber grip which is a good deal wider than the 4.0 mm barrel, and is the pen’s one concession to comfort.
At the time of its release the Zoom 707 was recognized as being a highly innovate pen. It was the winner of the Baden-Württemberg International Design Award (1990), the prestigious Design Plus Award (1989), and the Red Dot Award (1988).
