The Tombow Zoom 828 BW rollerball is the famous “Egg” pen that is known for its short size and width.
The Zoom 828 bw is better known as the rollerball version of the famous Tombow “Egg” pen. The fountain pen version is the Zoom 828 fp. Tombow is well known for their Zoom 707 which was touted as the slimmest pen ever sold, but also for the Egg which is one of the widest.
There is a full range of these pens from the 808bw to the 858bw. The pens are essentially the same with the finishes varying based on the model number. The models are as follows:
- 808 bw – White body with green trim
- 828 bw – Gloss black with gold trim
- 838 bw – Brushed aluminum with chrome trim
- 848 bw – Matte silver
- 858 bw – Matte black
A similar, but rarer pen is the Platinum Glamour fountain pen which generally sells for more money and is less easy to find. The gloss coating on the Glamour does typically survive better than the matte of the Egg, so conditions tend to be better on those pens.
