The Zebra Sarasa Grand is one of the best deals in the pen world. It’s a metal pen that uses Zebra’s excellent Sarasa gel link, and sells for under $10. It’s almost impossible to beat.
One interesting thing about the pen is a very prominent spring-loaded clip. While this clip is one of the most notable features of some Sarasa pens, the clip was overkill on early models of the Sarasa Grand. Later version of the pen — still sold as the Sarasa Grand — have the same clip but with a reduced height.
The Sarasa Grand has a metal body (most people agree its brass) with a plastic window in it. This is supposedly so you can see the level of the refill, but it’s curiously placed at the top of the pen. The knock button is metal and has a nice, smooth action to it.
The Grand is sold in 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.7 mm sizes, using the standard Sarasa gel ink, not Zebra’s quick-drying JLV refills.
The Sarasa Grand has a number of standard colors as well as limited edition and seasonal ones. One of the most desirable is the Sarasa Grand Royal Silver (pictured above).
Sarasa Grand Vintage
On March 20, 2020 Zebra released the Sarasa Grand Vintage series of pens. This is the same pen as the original Grand, but with 11 new body colors and 10 new ink colors. The Sarasa Grand Vintage also uses a gold-colored metal clip and top button.
Each of the pens, aside from the new matte black finish has a new, matching ink color with a 0.5 mm writing tip. The matte black model has standard black ink.
