Pilot Dr. Grip Ace Shaker Mechanical Pencil

The Pilot Dr. Grip Ace Shaker is a feature-packed mechanical pencil that combines the Dr. Grip design with top features from multiple competing pencils. This pencil would more accurately be known as the Dr. Grip Mogulair as it uses most of the design and features from Pilot’s Mogulair mechanical pencil.

The Dr. Grip Ace has the ergonomic, wide body that is found in all Dr. Grip pens and pencils. A similar design is used in the Zebra Delguard GR (short for grip) though the Dr. Grip is more comfortable. As the name says, the pencil is a shaker, so in addition to pushing the top button you can give it a firm shake to extend the lead.

The Dr. Grip Ace also has the anti-lead breaking system from the Pilot Mogulair. This places a spring-loaded mechanism in the front of the pencil, so that if you push the lead hard enough to break it, the spring presses in instead, breaking breakage. This is a similar system to that found in the Delguard series we well. While this system works well, it can make the pencil feeling mushy when writing.

The final notable feature of the pencil is the Las-1 indication, which is a small window on the side of the pencil body that is white when you have at least one full piece of lead left. It turns orange when you are using your last piece of pencil lead.
