The Zebra Delguard is a highly respected mechanical pencil family and a direct competitor to the Uni Kuru Toga series. This pencil, named the Zebra Delguard (sometimes spelled “DelGuard”), is the base model of the series. The pencil is known for its smooth action, good looks, and “unbreakable” lead technology.
The Delguard uses an internal double-spring mechanism so that your lead is as close as possible to being unbreakable. This mechanism means that when you push down on the lead, the down-pressure can cause the lead to be pushed back into the pencil by a fraction of a millimeter. This allows for use of thinner leads as well as less thinking about breaks when using a standard 0.5 mm.
The DelGuard system prevents breakage, but can give the pencil a springy or mushy feel to it. This mushiness does turn off some buyers, but it’s a huge advantage to others. The DelGuard technology is the same across the entire line of pencils, from this standard model all the way up to the DelGuard Lx.
