The Zebra DelGuard Type-Lx, or DelGuard Lx for short, is the luxury version of this mechanical pencil family. It has a metal grip area and metal hardware, where the parts on the rest of the pencils in the line are entirely plastic.
While it is the “luxury” pencil in the line, it can still be purchased for under $10.
The Lx is sold in small number of colors, but has been released in some limited editions, like green (pictured above).
The Lx has a metal grip and a plastic body. The cap piece, which hides the eraser, has a metal shaft and the clip is also metal. This marks a big change from the rest of the line which have almost no metal used, aside from the writing tip. The grip on the Lx is particularly interesting as it is a very close match of the plastic grip on the standard DelGuard, which is a very cool details and could not have been easy to manufacturer.
As far as writing performance goes, all the DelGuards use the same internal mechanism and all function the same. The Lx has a slight edge on the rest because it has a heavier grip and the lower center of gravity does aid writing accuracy.
Zebra DelGuard Type-Lx Alternatives
If you like the Lx, then some other pencils to consider are the Kuru Toga Roulette and Kuru Toga High-Grade, both of which are direct competitors with a different anti-lead breaking technology from Zebra.
