As of October 2024 it’s rumored that Lamy, having recently been acquired by Mitsubishi Pencil, will release a version of their M16 refill with Jetstream ink.

This is still an unsubstantiated rumor, but it’s pretty big news because the M16 is a proprietary shape and it’s the only full-sized ballpoint refill that Lamy uses. This means that a number of very nicely designed Lamy ballpoint pens are restricted to Lamy’s M16 refill shape and their old-school (non-hybrid) ballpoint ink.
The Jetstream ink is a high-quality, modern ballpoint ink that is much better than the Lamy M16’s ink for almost all day-to-day writing activities. This means a major upgrade is in-store for these retractable ballpoint pens, like the 2000, Safari, Vista, Studio, Scala, and more.
While this is a rumor, the pattern make sense given that Uni Mitsubishi has released the Jetstream ink in a Parker-style refill in the SXR-600. This is a perfect example of Mitsubishi releasing their ink in a body shape that isn’t specifically built for their brand. The SXR-600 has been a bit hit and highly acclaimed, so a follow-up to it make sense, especially given the recent acquisition of Lamy.
