Schmidt’s 6040 is a fiber-tipped fineliner that is shaped like a standard European rollerball refill. It will turn a rollerball into a broad writer that is much more akin to a marker than a ballpoint or standard rollerball. These are used when you want your rollerball body to write like a PaperMate Flair or Sharpie Fine Point Pen.
The 6040 has a spring-loaded tip that is design to prevent the plastic fiber in the writing tip from being crushed if pressed too hard.
The 6040 is sold in fine and medium, which have a 0.8 mm and 1.0 mm writing tip, respectively.
