2021 might feel off, but it’s September which means it’s just a third of the year away. Our 2020 Hobonichi Techo explainer was quite popular so we are following it up with a look at the Hobonichi Techo 2021 lineup.

This year is quite auspicious as it’s the 20th anniversary of the Hobonichi Techo lineup!

Hobonichi Techo 2021 Release Date

The Hobonichi Techo 2021 line was announce on September 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, so everything that is coming has already been announced. The some products went on sale then, while others will be released well after the announcement day, as it normal.

Of the products that will go on sale in October, some will follow up in November. Last year the release dates were October 4 and November 1, and we expect this year to be similar. The specific dates we expect are October 1st and November 2nd.

We do know that the late starting journals (called the “April-start” models) will go on sale on February 1st, 2021.

FAQs

What does Hobonichi Techo “Weeks” mean?

Weeks are the small, wallet-sized Hobonichi Techo journals. This small size is commonly sold as the 240-page (9 mm thick) Weeks Planner, but it’s also sold as the Weeks Mega, which is 384 pages (13 mm thick). Weeks is the smallest size in the Hobonichi Techo line.

What does Hobonichi Techo “Cousin” mean?

Cousin planners are the largest size in the Hobonichi Techo line. They are A5 size and were produced for people who wanted more space than a normal Hobonichi. Cousin models can also be used as notebooks and diaries, and for other uses that need more writing space than a smaller journal (the A6 size for instance). The Cousin models are popular with people with larger writing.

What size is the Original Hobonichi Techo?

The “Original” line of Hobonichi Techo journals, notebooks, and planners is A6 size. This means it’s smaller than the A5 Cousin and larger than the Weeks models.

What paper does the Hobonichi Techo use?

All Hobonichi Techo journals use Tomoe River paper. This paper is super thin, quite strong, and can holder up to any pen. By using Tomoe River paper, the journals can pack as many pages in as possible while keeping weight and thickness to a minimum.

What does Hobonichi Techo “Avec” mean?

Avec is the half-year model of the Hobonichi Techo journals and planners. Avec models are sold in the Japanese A6 model and the Japanese A5 Cousin model (which is larger).
