The Uni Jetstream Edge 3 is the three-color follow-up to the popular Jetstream Edge, which was the first ballpoint-style pen to use a 0.28 mm writing tip.
The Jetstream Edge 3 (model SXE3-2503-28) follows the design of the Edge with its metal grip, metallic colors, and wire clip, but has a number of changes as well. The foremost among these is the use of an asymmetric writing tip, similar to that found on the Lamy Dialog 1. This design places the writing tip above the center point of the pen. This design doesn’t do much to make the pen more comfortable to write with, but it does make it easier to see the area of the paper where you are writing.
Rather than use a push button at the end like the Edge, the pen uses a twist mechanism to extend and retract the refills, similar to the Jetstream Premier 3 executive pen. Uni calls this twist action their “Spirotech mechanism.”
The Edge 3 houses three ink colors all of which use the Edge’s super thin 0.28mm refills.
The Jetream Edge 3 was released in limited quantities on November 25, 2020 in black, white, red, blue, and turquoise colored barrels. The pen has a retail price of 2500 yen or about $27 USD.
The Edge 3 will use Uni’s 0.28 mm SXR-203-28 refills.
