The Jetstream 3-Color Slim Compact is a slim 3-color multi-pen from Uni Mitsubishi (a division of Mitsubishi Pencil Co.). The pen was announced on January 17, 2019 and released in Japan on January 30th. The retail price of the pen is 600 yen. It’s a slim version of the popular Jetstream 3, with slightly improved aesthetics, a streamlined profile, slimmer slides for choosing a color, and a much thinner body. The Slim Compact sells for a few dollars more than the original (600 JPY vs 400 JPY).
This pen is sold in 0.38mm and 0.5mm ink sizes and uses Jetstream’s standard SXR-80 refills. This refills uses the Jetstream hybrid, oil-based ink.
The Jetstream 3 Color Slim Compact is a slimmer version of the Jetstream 3, a popular multi-pen that sells for about $5 and is readily available in the United States. The Slim Compact has a few changes from that pen:
- Small diameter body
- Matching color grip with textured pattern
- Low-profile sliders to pick the color
- The clip was stationary on the Jetstream 3, but is used to extend the black ink on the Slim Compact
The 0.38mm version of the pen (Model: SXE3-JSS-38) sells in mint green, lavender, baby pink body colors. The 0.5mm version (Model: SXE3-JSS-05) sells in navy, black, bordeaux, and white.
One interesting change with the Jetstream Slim Compact 3-Color is that the clip is used as a color selector. This is a feature that cuts down on extra parts and nice a nice design choice but that is normally only seen on pens with more options, like 3+1, 4, and 4+1 pens.
Uni does not yet sell a Jetstream Slim Compact 2+1 but that should be possible with only slim modifications to the pen’s body.
