The Parker 51 Deluxe is the 2021 version of Parker’s famous 51 fountain pen. This is a new version of the 51, not a re-release, as there are significant changes to the pen.
Despite being launched in 1941, the Parker 51 fountain pen is still very popular with collectors. News leaked in early 2020 that Parker would be relaunching an updated Parker 51 some time in the future, and it’s since become a reality. With a early 2021 launch date, the new “Parker 51 Deluxe” should breathe new life into this pen’s popularity.
The Parker 51 Deluxe maintains almost all the iconic designs of the early Parker 51, but as collectors known there was no single Parker 51, but instead there were many different versions of the pen that were sold through its 30 year life.
The P51 still has the hooded nib, resin (plastic) body, and slip-on cap. It also has the metal jewel on top and the original colors.
The Parker 51 is primarily sold with and 18K gold nib in fine and medium. In the most significant change to the pen, it is not a cartridge/converter pen where only a small number of original P51 fountain pens were converters (most used the vacumatic or aerometric internal filling mechanisms).
There is also a steel nib version of the Deluxe that sells for about $100.
With the release Parker will appease fans of the original but the price tag of about $250 will do nothing to address the number of buyers who has started to use cheaper Parker 51 clones, like the Wing Sung 601.
