The Platinum President is the company’s full-sized, flagship fountain pen. It has an Art Deco-style clip and a clean, refined design. This is pen that is one size larger than the Platinum #3776 Century.
Don’t miss out Platinum fountain pen buying guide, which features the President.
Despite being Platinum’s largest fountain pen body, the President is an older design that has not seen all the same enhancements or improvements as the #3776 Century. The good news is that the newer models do features the Slip and Seal cap sealing technology found in the 3776 Century.
The President’s main selling point is that it’s larger than the 3776 Century. At about 28 grams in weight it’s a nice sized pen that people tend to like if they are in the market for something larger than a standard Century or Sailor 1911. The other important difference between the President and Century is that the larger pen has an 18K nib. This doesn’t make much difference in practice but it’s a nice writer nonetheless (not that we have any complaints with the 3776).
The President is sold as a demonstrator with a fully clear body. This model is known as the Platinum President Transparent Fountain Pen and has a rhodium nib. On all the President pens the rhodium trim marks an increase price over the standard gold. This feature will generally costs buyers an additional $50 in street price.
Downsides of the Platinum President
This pens catches a number of complaints for its staid design, lack of improvements over the 3776 Century, and the fact that it’s barely larger than the 3776. Additionally it doesn’t come in a fancy gift box or do anything else that would set it apart from the 3776.
Despite all this, it will cost substantially more than a 3776 Century, making the President a pen that all but the most dedicated Platinum fans skip.
