The Tombow Zoom 505 is a family of metal-bodied pens and pencils, including this refillable liquid ink rollerball. This is one of the best rollerball pens sold today.
The Zoom 505 has a metal body, made of aluminum, with a contoured rubber grip. Most metal body pens do not have a rubber grip, as the metal body far outlasts the rubber of the grip, but the hard, tough rubber of the Zoom 505 tends to hold up well. The black band in the center of the pen is metal, not rubber.
The pen uses a propriety, water-based, pigmented ink refill that is smooth and excellent to use. The refills can leak as they get older, but the problem isn’t much of an issue any longer.
The writing tip of the pen ends slightly prematurely, making it seem too short for the refill. This seems like a design shortcoming, but it’s actually a feature: the refills have a color-coordinated section above the rollerball which means you can know the color of the rollerball’s ink before writing.
