The Pilot S30 is a mechanical pencil in the popular “S” series which combines the wood body of the S20 and the automatic features of the Automac.
The S30 will be a drafting style pencil that looks much like the S20 but has the auto advance mechanism of the Automac pencil. To accomodate the automatic lead advance system the S20’s fixed lead sleeves looks to have been replaced with a rectractable design similar to that used in the Automac.
News of this upcoming pencil was leaked to Reddit in December 2020, but the pencil is expected to be released sometime in 2021, likely in March.
The S30 will initially only be sold in 0.5 mm lead size under the model of IHPS-3SK, with a retail price of 3300 JPY. No 0.3 mm size has been announced yet, but it may not come in the future as the Automac is only sold in a 0.5 mm size.
It will use Pilot’s standard HERFS-10 eraser refills.
Like the S20 series it will be sold in four wood colors: deep red, dark brown, black, and a blonde wood (called brown).
