Uni Kuru Toga Advance Metal “Punching Grip” is a premium mechanical pencil with a metal grip that has holes punched out if it.
The mechanical pencil was announced on December 5, 2019 and released on January 30, 2020. The pencil is available in 6 colors but is only sold in 0.5 mm lead diameter. It has a retail price of 1000 JPY or about $10.00.
The Advance Metal pencil is very similar to the existing High Grade and Roulette models in that they all have metal clips and grips but plastic bodies. These three are the premium side of the Kuru Toga line-up, similar to the Zebra Delguard Lx model.
The Advance Metal is similar to the Kuru Toga Advance model in that is has the high-speed rotation lead turning engine that Uni calls the “W-speed.” This turns the lead at twice the speed of the standard Kuru Toga.
The main selling point of this pencil will be the metal grip. As opposed to being knurled, it has small holes punched out of the metal that act as windows so you can see the lead advancing mechanism inside. The metal grip also acts to lower the center of gravity of the pencil, making for a more pleasant and more accurate writing experience.
