The SXR-38 is the 0.38 mm version of the Jetstream ballpoint refill. The SXR family is the standard refill found in almost all Jetstream pens, like the Jetstream Standard and Jetstream RT.
The most popular refills in the series is the SXR-7 and SXR-5, but the refill is also sold in a 1.0 mm, the SXR-10.
The SXR refills are modern ballpoint refills, which means they use a lubricated ink that is much lighter feeling and lower viscosity than a standard ballpoint ink.
The SXR refills, also use a “Twin-Ball” design which is unique to Uni. This system is said to provide for smooth, skip-free writing without blobbing or excess ink leakage by having two balls in the refill. The first ball acts to lower the viscosity of the ink so that it flows as smoothly as possible and no ink is left in the refills at the end of its life, but then when the ink hits the paper it reverts to its original viscosity and adheres to the paper without smudging or smearing.
