The Uni-ball Air is a rollerball pen with a unique “cushion-tip” writing tip that leads to a smooth flow and a great overall rollerball pen.
The Air uses Uni-ball’s Super Ink which is pigmented, causing the ink to the resistant to water, fraud (like check-washing), and fading. The ink is also of archival quality, meaning that in addition to being fade-resistant it’s acid-free. Super Ink is also uses in a number of other Uni-ball pens. The ink, and this pen, conforms with the ISO 14145-2 standard for rollerball ink.
The Air has a plastic body and plastic cap. The most unique part of the pen is the writing tip which slopes from the grip directly to the rolling ball at the end, in a design that Uni-ball calls their “Cushion Tip.” The ball is encased in plastic as opposed to metal, which might seem like a downside, but Uni-ball says the soft plastic means less friction, smoother writing, less pressure required, and the ability to writing at shallower (more acute angles).
The softness of the plastic also means some line variation is possible when more or less pressure is applied, giving the pen a fountain pen-like quality that many people seek in a rollerball.
This is a disposable pen meaning there is no ink cartridge and the pen is not designed to be refilled.
