Pilot CON-70 Fountain Pen Converter

Pilot CON-70 Converter

The CON-70 is Pilot’s largest and most expensive fountain pen converter. It is the converter included with Pilot’s gold nib pens, like the Custom 74 and Falcon. Its capacity is 1.1 ml, breaking the convention of the number after the “CON-” matching the capacity of the converter in milliliters.

The CON-70 does not have a screw or piston mechanism, rather it is pushed down at the top and ink is sucked into the body on the return of the spring-loaded button. This action is very efficient as it allows for a high capacity, but it’s difficult to master and not all users are able to use it well enough to utilize the full 1.1 ml volume. It take multiple presses of the top button and let go to quickly suck in ink.

The CON-70 does not screw into the pen body but rather has a friction fit.

The converter comes in two variations: a silver body and a black one.

CON-70 Compatibility

Due to its length, the CON-70 is only able to use used with certain Pilot and Namiki fountain pens. These are normally the larger, more expensive pens, but there are exceptions, like the Pilot Explorer and Kakuno. Some of the pens that will accomodate the Pilot CON-70 are:

  • Kakuno
  • Explorer
  • Custom 74
  • Custom 912
  • Custom Maple
  • Custom NS
  • Metal Falcon
  • Justus 95
  • Maki-e
