The Uni-ball R:E (pronouced “are ee”) is an erasable gel pen sold by Uni in North America. It’s the standard pen in the R:E series of erasable pens, which also includes multi-pens and pen sets. The R:E’s erasable ink is thermo-sensitive, which means you don’t actually need an eraser to erase it, you just need to rub something against the paper until it gets hot enough to make the ink disappear!
R:E ink will start to disappear at 140 degrees F, so you need to be careful about leaving papers in direct sunlight in a car, too close to a heat, or other extremely warm environments.
This R:E standard pen is a single-color retractable pen with a plastic body and a clear plastic cap that covers a hard rubber eraser. The grip is rubber and designed for extended writing periods as the pen is generally used by students.

While Uni-ball tends to make excellent pens, this is not one we would recommend. Pilot’s Frixion series is much more fun to write with, which smoother, brighter ink.
Despite the sub-bar ink coloration the R:E pen body is very good and quite handsome. The pen is a good deal and is generally better designed than Pilot’s competition. The R:E also comes in a number of interesting colors as well as special edition collaborations, such as ones with Disney.
